a dining room with a lot of tables and chairs

Denver · Since 2014

A fire, a room, and dinner

Everything comes off one wood-fired grill. The menu changes when the growers change it, the wine list is short on purpose, and nobody will rush you out for the second seating.

Tonight

5:30 – 10 pm

Where

1180 Larimer Street

Reservations

Walk-ins

Always, at the bar

The room

Thirty-four seats, one fire, and a pass you can see from every one of them

We took the wall out between the kitchen and the room in 2019 and have never regretted it. The grill is the loudest thing in here and the second loudest is the conversation.

There is no dress code and no tasting menu. There is a bar you can eat at without booking, a corner table that is worth asking for, and a playlist that stops being polite at about nine.

On tonight

A short menu, changed often

Six starters, six mains, four puddings. If something ran out it ran out because it was good.

The best fire cooking in the city, in a room that has no interest in being the most expensive one you have ever sat in.

Westword · Restaurant of the Year

The list

Sixty bottles, and somebody here has drunk all of them

Mostly from growers working small plots, mostly under sixty dollars, and all of it chosen because it goes with smoke.

Ask for the pairing if you want to stop thinking about it. Eight glasses, poured as the courses land, and nobody will describe anything as having notes of anything.

The evening

Most nights look about like this

a dimly lit bar with chairs and shelves
stainless steel fork on white ceramic plate
liquor pours in wine glass
clear wine glass on red ceramic plate
brown wooden table with chairs

Private dining

The back room holds eighteen

Its own door, its own fire, and a menu you agree with us beforehand rather than choose on the night.

We do about sixty of these a year — birthdays, wakes, one wedding, and a great many company dinners that went on longer than intended.
